Erica
Vease texto. Erica es un género con unas 700 especies de plantas de flor de la familia Ericaceae; también son conocidas como brezos. Son plantas resistentes a las sequías y a los fuegos. La mayoría son endémicas de Suráfrica, sin embargo, también ampliamente distribuidas en la Peninsula Ibérica y en las Islas Canarias.

Género de plantas con aproximadamente 500 especies de arbustos bajos, siempreverdes, de la familia de las Ericáceas, la mayoría de ellas originarias de Sudáfrica.

Algunas también existen en la región mediterránea y en el norte de Europa, y hay especies que fueron introducidas en América del Norte. Tienen pequeñas hojas angostas, dispuestas en verticilos situados muy juntos en los brotes. Algunas especies africanas son arbustos grandes o árboles. El brezo blanco o arbóreo (E. arborea) también se conoce como arbusto espinoso. Algunas especies sudafricanas se cultivan en invernaderos frescos y al aire libre en el sudoeste de América del Norte.
